This is an example of the first type of motor car made at the Daimler Automobile works at Cannstadt, Germany (founded 1890). The car is powered by a vertical two-cylinder engine, which develops six hp at 700 rpm, is suspended behind and drives a countershaft by means of four belts, the ends of which carry pinions engaged with internally toothed rings fixed to the wheels. It has four forward gears and one reverse gear, and has a top speed of 12 mph.
