Lord Melchett (1868-1930), son of Dr Ludwig Mond, was a Liberal MP from 1906 to 1928, occupying the position of the minister of health in 1922. In 1926 he merged the family firm Brunner-Mond with three smaller companies to create ICI (Imperial Chemical Industries Ltd). Melchett was an advocate of health insurance and worked at trying to restore relations between staff and employers following the 1926 general strike.
