The screwdriver on the left is the more traditional type for screws with a single groove. The one on the right is a Phillips, for turning screws with a cros-shaped slot. This type is easier to use as the screwdriver is les liable to slip out of the screw slot. The Phillips is named after the American manufacturer Henry E Phillips.
