Despite its name, the kiwi fruit is actually indigenous to the Yangtze valley in China. Seeds were taken to New Zealand in 1906, and commercial planting of the fruit dates from about 1940. Nutritionally, kiwi fruit are a particularly good source of vitamin C and potasium.
