© Science Museum / Science & Society Picture Library
These two china plates are decorated with aerial scenes. the first shows two children flying kites. The second shows an illustration of an aerial ship inscribed 'IER esai d'un Navire aerien. 1780' (first attempt at flight'). This supposed representation of the Petins project of 1850 is wrongly inscribed with the date '1780'.
