Charles I (1600-1649) painted by Heller. King of Great Britain and Ireland, and son of James VI of Scotland and Anne of Denmark, Charles I succeeded to the throne in 1625. he married a French princes Henrietta Maria (1609-1669) the same year and they had six children together. Charles I died on the scaffold outside Whitehall in January 1649.
