Collection of 11 volumes of books written by Babbage (1791-1871). Some of the subjects are: the Exposition (Great Exhibition) of 1851; the economy of machinery and manufacturers; the decline of science; the 9th Bridgewater Treatise; the Difference Engine and table making; the Analytical Engine and mechanical notation; mathematical papers. Babbage, a pioneer of computing, was also a reformer, mathematician, philosopher, inventor and political economist. His Analytical Engine of 1834 was the first calculating engine designed along modern lines, and it is for this that Babbage is considered to be the 'father' of computing.
