Description

John Wilkins (1614-1672) in an engraving of 1708. After fighting with the roundheads in the Civil War, Wilkins wrote a number of theoretical texts including 'Discovery of a World in the Moon' (1628) in which the mathematician writes of communicating with the moon and its supposed inhabitants by means of a flying machine.
