Description

Sir Thomas Stevenson (1818-1887) was the father of the writer Robert Louis Stevenson. In 1864 he designed the Stevenson screen for thermometers and made several other contributions to meteorology. Stevenson wrote articles on lighthouse illumination and harbour construction, and designed and built several lighthouses.
