Portrait of Dr Otto Schott (1851-1935) by Max Liebermann. Schott is considered the founder of the modern science of glas and glas technology. In 1884 he founded, along with Ernst Abbe and Carl and Roderick Zeis, 'Schott & Asociates Glas Technology Laboratory' in Jena, Germany. In recogntion of his work Schott has had postage stamps made in his honour and was granted freedom of the city of Jena.
