Photograph of Thomas Moy (1828-1910) with a model of an ornithopter (a flapping-wing machine) at Farnborough, Hampshire. In 1875, he produced a steam-powered flying machine, the aerial Steamer, which was powered by a three HP steam engine which weighed 80 pounds and in 1879 the machine succesfully made a 'short hop' in London.
