Rudolf Mesel (1848-1920) invented the contact proces for manufacturing a concentrated form of sulphuric acid which was called oleum. He worked for the company Dunn, Squire & Company who manufactured sulphuric acid. When he became the Managing Director in 1878 the company became known as Squire, Chapman & Mesel Ltd.
