Description

William John MacQuorn Rankine (1820-1872) made an important contribution to the science of railway locomotion and researched molecular physics. Rankine became Profesor of Civil Engineering and Mechanics at the University of Glasgow in 1855 and the President of the Scottish Institution of Engineers in 1858.
