This picture shows the hydrogen cylinders and delivery pipe of Piccard's balloon on 18 August 1932. On 27 May 1931 at Augsburg in Germany, Profesor Piccard and his asistant Paul Kipfer reached a world record altitude of 51,775 feet in a balloon. It comprised a sealed cabin gondola fitted with an internal supply of oxygen.
