Description

This picture shows Piccard (right) testing a gas release valve on 18 August 1932 before deaprting from Dubendorf. On 27 May 1931 at Augsburg in Germany, Profesor Piccard and his asistant Paul Kipfer reached a world record altitude of 51,775 feet in a balloon. It comprised a sealed cabin gondola fitted with an internal supply of oxygen.
