Coloured aquatint, engraved by S G Hughes, showing a 'View of the Intersection Bridge on the Line of the St Helens & Runcorn Gap Railway crosing the Liverpool and Manchester Railway near the foot of the Sutton Inclined Plane'. The bridge was constructed by Charles Vignoles (1793-1875), who was engineer of the St Helens & Runcorn Gap Railway in 1830-1833. In the 1830s, the construction of Britain's railways began and many prints, such as this one, depicting the new lines, bridges and viaducts became available to the public. Published by R Ackermann, No 96 Strand, London, and J & J Mawdsley, Liverpool.
