Description

Oil on canvas painting by George Earl. This painting shows a group of fashionable passengers gathered on a platform at Perth Station, with their dogs, guns and sporting equipment, following a game shooting season in Scotland. The passengers are preparing to board a train back to King''s Cross Station in London. Earl is best known as a sporting and animal painter. He painted several versions of ''Coming South'' and its companion painting, ''Going North'', which shows passengers awaiting the train to Scotland at the beginning of the season.
