Description

Engraving by James Godby, made after a drawing by Frederick Rehberg. Herschel (1738-1822) is portrayed against a background representing part of the constellation of Gemini including the Georgian Sidus (Georgian star) named after George III which was discovered by Dr Herschel at Bath on 13 March 1781. Herschel was famous for discovering the planet Uranus, the intrinsic motion of the Sun and the form of the Milky Way.
