Signed photograph. Carl von Graebe (1841-1927) became recognised for his work in the synthetic dyestuffs industry. In 1869, both he and Carl Theodore Liebermann (1842-1914), synthesised alizarin from anthraquinone, which was very significant for the German dyestuffs industry.
