Description

Portrait bust in Parian ware after the marble by Joseph Durham ARA, manufactured c 1866 by Brown-Westhead Moore Co. Prince Albert (1819-1861) married his first cousin, Queen Victoria (1819-1901), in 1840. In 1857 he was given the title Prince Consort and became the Queen's private advisor. He was interested in arts, science and industry and planned the Great Exhibition of 1851, the profits from which were used to buy the sites in London for the South Kensington museums (now the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Science Museum and the Natural History Museum) and the Royal Albert Hall.
