The Abingdon Road Station was on the Great Western Railway. This view shows a locomotive hauling a horse-driven carriage (without the horse) on a wagon. This was the way in which the gentry would travel in the early years of the railways. On the right horses can be seen being stabled and in the centre a toll house is visible.
