Lithograph, drawn and lithographed by Arthur Fitzwilliam Tait (1819-1905) showing a hilltop view of the cathedral city of Wakefield in Yorkshire. A family are shown standing on a hill, viewing a steam locomotive departing from a station below them, with the city seen in the distance. The Manchester & Leeds Railway was built from 1837 under the supervision of George Stephenson (1781-1848), and covered a 51 mile stretch acros the Pennines.
