Description

Photograph. George Fitzgerald (1851-1901) was President of the Physical Society from 1892 to 1893. Fitzgerald also made important discoveries in electrolysis and electromagnetic radiation. With Hendrik Antoon Lorentz, Fitzgerald is responsible for the 'Fitzgerald-Lorentz contraction', relating to the changes in moving bodies.
