Description

Engraving by J Asperne. Dollond (1730-1820) worked with both his father John Dollond and nephew George Dollond. In 1765 he invented the triple achromatic lens by combining two convex lenses of crown glas with one double-concave lens of flint glas. In 1758 he presented his achromatic telescope to the Royal Society and was awarded the Copley Medal. He improved the astronomical refracting telescope and navigation instruments.
