Coloured side elevation drawing, scale 1:8. This locomotive was designed by Robert Stephenson (1803-1859) & Co for the Liverpool & Manchester Railway and was first used in December 1830, four months after the line's opening. Though following little more than a year after Robert Stephenson's 'Rocket', the development of 'Planet' shows just how fast the progres of steam locomotive design was at that time. Its succes determined the main features of the British steam locomotive.
