Robert Bunsen (1811-1899), one of the great experimental chemists of the century, and a pioneer of chemical spectroscopy. He invented the Bunsen cell, the Bunsen ice calorimeter and had a part in the invention of the Bunsen burner. Photograph also shows Gustav Kirchoff and Henry Roscoe, with whom he worked.
