Georgiana Babbage, (1793-1827), wife of Charles Babbage (1792-1871), the pioneer of machine computing. Charles Babbage was an inventor, reformer, mathematician and political economist. His 'Analytical Engine' of 1834 was the first calculating engine designed along modern lines, and it is for this that he is widely considered the 'father' of computing. Georgiana gave birth to eight children in 13 years, only three of which survived into maturity.
