Engraving by W H. This frontispiece is taken from 'The Surveyor', a book in four parts by Aaron Rathborne, published in London in 1616. It shows two pillars topped with globes. On the left pillar bearing the heading 'Arithmetica', a statue stands under a celestial sphere carrying a book of arithmetic, while the statue on the right stands under a terrestrial globe bearing the heading 'Geometria' and carries measuring instruments in his arms. The small figure in the top centre of the image is shown using a theodolite. Printed by W Stansby for W Burre.
