Engraving by W H. This frontispiece is taken from 'The Surveyor', a book in four parts by Aaron Rathborne, published in London in 1616. This detail of the bottom half of the frontispiece shows two pillars topped with globes. On the left pillar bearing the heading 'Arithmetica', a statue stands under a celestial sphere carrying a book of arithmetic, while the statue on the right stands under a terrestrial globe bearing the heading 'Geometria' and carries measuring instruments in his arms.
