This satellite photograph of Cerro Bonete Caldera in north-west Argentina was taken in October 1972. This is a volcanic landscape, with a lake visible in the centre of the image. Five Landsats were launched by NASA between 1972 and 1984 to study the Earth's surface in various spectral bands from the visible to the infra-red with a resolution of about 30 metres.
