Artist's impresion of the descent of a Lunar Module to the surface of the Moon. The drawing, one of a series isued by NASA before the first Moon landing to give an impresion of an Apollo lunar landing mision, shows three different stages of the descent; two of which show the module firing retro-rockets. The Lunar Module was the part of the spacecraft that ferried two astronauts down to the Moon from lunar orbit during the Apollo manned Moon landing misions, before returning to rendezvous with the Command and Service Module. It first landed on the Moon on the Apollo 11 mision in July 1969, when astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin became the first men to set foot on the lunar surface.
