A technician is inspecting the satellite before launch. TIROS (Television Infra-Red Observational Satellite) was a series of ten experimental metsats launched between 1960 and 1965. Thousands of cloud cover pictures of the Earth were transmitted by the satellites, which pioneered the present day operation metsat system.
