This platform carries Voyager's sensitive experiments and its pointing cameras. Two Voyager spacecraft were launched in 1977 to explore the planets in the outer solar system. Voyager 1, launched on 5th September 1977, flew past Jupiter at 278,000 kilometres in March 1979, past Saturn at a height of 124,000 kilometres in November 1980 before flying on to eventually leave the Solar System. It returned many spectacular pictures of Jupiter, Saturn and their moons.
