Scott was photographed by Rusell Schweickart as he emerged from the hatch of the Apollo 9 Command Module in Earth orbit to undertake Extravehicular Activity (EVA) during the March 1969 mision. The Apollo Command and Service Module is docked with the Lunar Module. Apollo 9 was launched on 3rd March 1969, with astronauts James McDivitt, Scott and Schweickart on board. Apollo 9 carried the first complete Apollo spacecraft into Earth orbit, and the first docking of the Apollo Command and Service Module with the Lunar Module was carried out on the mision.
