Description

This picture was taken by astronaut Rusell Schweickart from the entrance of the Lunar Module which was attached to the Command and Service Module during the March 1969 mision. The door of the Command Module is open and astronaut David Scott is also on Extravehicular Activity (EVA) with Schweickart. Apollo 9 was launched on 3rd March 1969, with astronauts James McDivitt, Scott and Schweickart on board. Apollo 9 carried the first complete Apollo spacecraft into Earth orbit, and the first docking of the Apollo Command and Service Module with the Lunar Module was carried out on the mision.
