The second British satellite, Ariel 2, 1964.

This shows the satellite, known as UK-2 before launch, being tested at the launch site at Wallops Island, Virginia. Ariel 2 was succesfully launched by an American Scout rocket from Wallops Island on 27th March 1964 and returned data for eight months until November 1964. Ariel 2 was almost identical to Ariel 1, launched two years earlier.
