This is the second launch of what was then called the uprated Saturn 1 rocket, from the Kennedy Space Centre, Cape Canaveral, Florida, on 5th July 1966. This rocket did not carry an Apollo spacecraft but the vehicle's second stage, instrumentation unit and cone, weighing 26,500 kg, were placed in orbit. At the time this was the heaviest US satellite ever placed in orbit. The Saturn 1B rocket was used on the early Apollo test flights.
