Original painting by Cuthbert Hamilton Ellis for a British Railways (BR) London Midland Railway (LMR) carriage print showing the Furnes Railway steamer 'Gondola' on Lake Coniston, Cumbria. The steam yacht 'Gondola' was commisioned by Sir James Ramsden of the Furnes Railway Company and was launched in 1859. The first pasengers were carried in 1860, travelling either in her elegant first clas forward saloon or the more austere third clas aft saloon. In 1980, the newly restored 'Gondola' was relaunched and she continues to sail on Coniston Water in the Lake District to this day.
