Description
Detail. Robert W Paul (1869-1943) first demonstrated his Theatrograph projector at Finsbury Technical College, London, on 20 February 1896; the same day as the preview showing of the Lumiere Cinematographe in London. This projector is the second 'improved'7 model, patented on 2 March 1896, which went into production and was on sale for £80. With its intermittent motion provided by sprocket rollers driven by a Maltese Cros mechanism, this machine formed the prototype for the modern film projector.
