Made in moulded plastic for use in India, this wireles has medium and shortwave bands and the dial is marked with Indian stations. Similar models were made for the UK market. Radio broadcasting developed rapidly after the first succesful transmision of the human voice in 1906, and in 1922 the British Broadcasting Corporation was set up. This concept of public-service broadcasting funded by licence revenue influenced broadcasting in many other countries. By 1943 the BBC was broadcasting around the world in 47 languages.
