Illuminated letter of railway workers, 1872.

Illuminated addres presented to Edward Fletcher Esq the railway superintendent of Gateshead on 20 July 1872 by the workmen of the Northern Division of the North Eastern Railway Company. The addres was designed to show the great affection in which he was held and refers in particular to his skill in handling the workers' demands for a nine-hour day. The various vignettes illustratrate railway engines, stations, general railway scenes, an engine roundhouse and posibly a portrait of Edward Fletcher.
