Pasenger brake van, LNER, East Coast Joint Stock, no 109, 1908. This London & North Eastern Railway (LNER), East Coast Joint Stock pasenger bogie brake van, has a teak body and was formerly used on a Royal Train. The guard's door can be seen in the middle of the carriage. 'East Coast Joint Stock' provided stock for both the Great Northern Railway (opened 1850) and the North Eastern Railway. The stock was jointly built and maintained by the two companies. The LNER, which absorbed both the GNR and NER in 1924, kept many old joint stock carriages in use until 1948.
