Description

This is the 'lung' component of a heart-lung machine. Heart-lung machines are used in heart surgery to temporarily take over the functions of both the heart and lungs. The apparatus has a pump to circulate the blood around the body and an apparatus such as that pictured to add oxygen to the blood and remove carbon dioxide from it.
