Photograph by T Ball of Kidderminster of a boy displaying legs deformed by rickets, a disorder of infants and growing children that was common amongst the poor in the late 19th century. It generally resulted from a poor diet deficient in vitamin D or calcium. This leads to the softening and distortion of the bones which often results in bow legs as shown here.
