Rabies sign belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF), kept for use in case of a rabies outbreak. Britain has been virtually free of rabies since the beginning of the 20th century. Rabies is a virus which if not treated is usually fatal. It is transmitted between animals, or from an animal to a person, via infected saliva, most often from a bite.
