Description

These are the working components of a prototype laser range finder which was later fitted to British Chieftain battle tanks. Developed in conjunction with the Military Vehicles Engineering Establishment at Chobham, Surrey, and Barr & Stroud, Glasgow, the instrument uses a solid-state ruby laser. In this view, the sighting telescope is located at the top left, while the collimating and receiving telescopes for the laser are positioned top and bottom on the right.
