Shaman's cloak, Nigeria, c 1880-1920.

This medicine man's costume originates from southern Nigeria. It is made from an antelope skin and is painted with geometrical patterns in a brown pigment. Belief in witch-doctors or medicine men and the practising of shamanistic ceremonies and rituals continues today in many areas of Africa.
