Wooden statue of St Radegrend (also known as Radegund) who was born c 520 AD, to one of three Thuringian kings. During the Frankish invasion of Thuringia (an area in Germany) in 531, Radegrend was captured by the Frankish King Clothaire I, who later forced her to become his queen. Radegrend used the revenues of the lands she was granted as queen to found hospices and do other charitable work for the poor.
