Description

Doctor's model in the form of a naked woman reclining on a wooden leaf-shaped. For centuries in China it was not considered proper for male doctors to examine female patients. Women from wealthy families used carved ivory 'dolls', such as this one, to indicate their symptoms so that the doctor could make a diagnosis.
