Dutch weather glas, 1601-1900
3 5 c m
actual image size: 32cm x 27cm

Weather glases like this were made in large quantities in the 17th-19th centries and later, as replicas in the 20th century. The changing air presure would alter the height to which liquid in the flask rose in the spout, but as changes in temperature could do this too, the instrument was never scientifically useful.
